Letting Off the Happiness is the second album by Bright Eyes. It was recorded in the period between March 1997 and March 1998 and was published in November 1998 on Saddle Creek.

In addition to Conor Oberst - the creative head of Bright Eyes - appeared on the album also musicians of Neutral Milk Hotel, Tilly and the Wall and Of Montreal as a guest musician with (see Section Participating musicians).

Title list

After the last song Tereza and Tomas follows a circa 15 minute drone, before the song Contrast and Compare is heard in an alternative version.

The song Empty Canyon, Empty Canteen is not included on all editions.

Reception

To release the album received little attention, so most reviews look at the album only in retrospect. Then there is the fact that the album in Germany until more than two years later - was published - in May 2001.

The German music magazine Visions were to be published in Germany the grade 9 out of 12 and stated:

Also Allmusic praised the board explicit and rated it 5.5 out of 6 points Pitchfork Media gave 6.8 out of 10 possible points.
