Conceptual history

The name referred originally Leukental the valley to St. Johann and Kirchdorf, Oberndorf to Erpfendorf. The name would come during the 20th century, almost forgotten, since the term Großachental was consistently from the mid-19th century. This is related that at times the Imperial monarchy all crown lands were accurately measured and the surveyors, most of whom came from Bohemia, often the Alpine dialects not understood and some names enlisted without further research in the cards. In addition, in the area many rivers change their name, and the characteristic for this Kalkalpenteil Talungszüge that surround the limestone massifs and often show little concise Talwasserscheiden, who deviates from its distribution of rivers names. So the then erroneous change the name of the valley from the name of the river forth to be explained by the surveyor had probably responded to the question of how the flow hot: " that's the big Ache ", and the flow in each village to another had names. Thus we find today in many maps the name Großachental.

During the 20th century even created the erroneous opinion that the Leukental would result from the Inn valley near Wörgl about Söll, Scheffau and Ellmau, the Sölland, according to St. John, so the station at Bruckhäusl (urban area Wörgl ) until a few years ago name SÖLL Leukental had. 1875, in the establishment of the station was meant that you would get from this station continues to Söll and then Ellmau and Going into Leukental. Over the decades, more and more a naturalized the error, the Leukental lead over the Sölland and Going to St. Johann.

The deceased in November 2008, Kitzbühel local historian Peter Brandstätter, gave the Leukental back his name by his life for the elucidation of this error campaigned and awareness of the Leukental strengthened again through publications and letters to the relevant public authorities. He even managed that the ÖBB changed the name of the station of the Söll - Leukental on Bruckhäusl.

Today the term is well established in the country's geography again, the name of the Planning Association is 32 Leukental, it includes the above-mentioned seven churches between Pass Thurn and the Bavarian border (without Kirchberg, the local politics is modeled more in the Brixental: Planning Association Brixental - Wildschönau ). Although geographically belonging to Leukental the Bavarian riding one in Winkl, although it is not with its municipal area in the Bavarian Tiroler Ache to the Bavarian Achentalgemeinden.
