Jochberg, Tyrol

Jochberg is a municipality with 1548 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Kitzbühel, Tyrol ( Austria ). The municipality is located in the judicial district of Kitzbühel.

Location

The center of Jochberg is located about halfway between Kitzbühel and Pass Thurn, which leads to Mittersill in the Pinzgau region of Salzburg. The municipality extends to the border with the province of Salzburg.

History

The area around Jochberg has been inhabited since ancient times. On the Goblet Alpe near Herzogenaurach was already around 1245 BC, a mining center. It took about 40 prehistoric smelters, most of them in the municipality of Jochberg, more in the municipality of Herzogenaurach. On the basis of archaeological finds and radiocarbon data, the smelters are in the time of 14./13. Century. BC (Boundary of mittlerern to late Bronze Age ) to at least the time of the advanced urn field culture (around 1000 BC ) dates. How long the prehistoric copper production in this area lasted is not yet clarified.

In Jochberg is a clearing settlement. The settlers came from the monastery Rott am Inn, had to make the country only cultivated the. The first written mention of the village was carried out under the Emperor Henry IV in 1173rd Since 1275 Jochberg considered as the interface between Salzburg and Bavaria.

From the 14th century the village belonged to the court Kitzbühel. A century later, the district was expanded immediately and became a district. In 1500, the character Jochberg and mining was again changed. There were mined metals such as silver and copper. Was smelted the ore in the hamlet of " huts ". By 1926, the mining was in operation in this region, the cottage until 1874.

Since 1762 Jochberg is a separate village and seems to among the ten villages of the district court Kitzbühel. In 1835 they built a road.

The coat of arms depicts a pretty border oxen and takes on the altitude of the community and the importance of agriculture reference. The coat of arms Ochsenberger, a noble family with a lot of land in the district Jochberg, formed the basis for the Jochberger crest.

Culture and sights

  • The first house of worship a Michael Church is notarized. 1485 a second church was built. The Bishop Berthold of Chiemsee Pürstinger has consecrated the new building. As a patron of the Holy Wolfgang, Bishop of Regensburg, was elected.
  • The Baroque built by 1750-1752 by Kassian Singer Sanctuary was decorated colorfully by Simon Faistenberger. It replaced the Gothic predecessor from the year 1485th
  • For nearly 300 years the Wolfgang fountain that sprang from beneath the church, destination of pilgrims which was sought and found healing. This is delivered in a so-called " Miracle book" from 1505 to 99 cases in writing. Why this Pilgrimage slowly dried up to Wolfgang source is not clear. On the initiative of Rev. Andreas Jakober the " Association of Friends of Wolfgang source " founded.

The Wolfgang water from a deep well can now be touched in the Gothic Wolfgang chapel in the parish church.
