Lev Alburt

Lew Ossipowitsch Alburt ( born August 21, 1945 in Orenburg, Russia) is an American, former Soviet chess player.

Lev Alburt was awarded by the FIDE title of International Master in 1976, then in 1977 the Grand Master title. Before a European Cup game against the Solinger SG 1868, he asked the Israeli Embassy in Bonn for political asylum. At the Chess Olympiad 1980 in Malta, he was already playing for the U.S. team.

Lev Alburt is also the author of numerous chess books. In 2004 he received the title of FIDE Senior Trainer.
