LGA 1156

The base (also called LGA1156 or Socket H) 1156 is a processor socket for the processor series Nehalem microarchitecture, Intel Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7. His successor is incompatible socket 1155th

The transition from the core to the Nehalem microarchitecture required a new socket. In processors for socket 1156 memory controller and PCIe controller in the processor are integrated. The base needs to provide corresponding additional connections to the memory and PCIe lanes. By integrating the amount foreseen for broadband data transfers PCIe controller on the CPU chip itself a Northbridge for this task is unnecessary. Therefore only a slightly modified Southbridge is connected to the CPU, which is called Intel Platform Controller Hub (PCH ). The PCH is, as usual with Intel's South Bridges, connected with a Direct Media Interface (DMI ).
