The LUISS University in Rome ( Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi sociali Guido Carli, in German: Free International University of Social Studies ) is a free private university in the social sciences with approximately 7,000 students ( 2009; 2003: 3000).

It was founded in 1966 as the first Catholic college and is closely linked to the national employers' association Confindustria since its transformation into a secular private university in 1974.

It has three faculties: law, economics and political science (which course the closer, is what is taught in Germany as VWL). There is also a journalism school, a business school and, since February 2010, a School of Government, from the English-language Master's degree programs ( Master in European Studies, Master in International Public Affairs ) are offered.

The LUISS is regarded by many as one of the Italy's best universities. It is situated slightly northeast from the city center and is easily accessible by public transport.

The tuition fees are among the highest in Europe. For the Bachelor programs fall to around 8,400 € and for the master's degree programs up to 12,000 € annual fee. The LUISS regarded as the training center of the Italian political and business elite. The University strives to recruit outstanding talent worldwide; Admission tests will be held in spring and autumn.

In addition to the headquarters in viale Romania there are six other locations, which are also located in the center of Rome and are housed in historic palaces and villas. Intake in the campus is possible only with student ID.
