Liga de Béisbol Profesional Roberto Clemente

The Puerto Rico Baseball League ( PRBL ) is the professional league in baseball in Puerto Rico. You currently consists of five teams, the master assumes the serial del Caribe ( Caribbean Series) part. The PRBL belongs to the so-called winter leagues whose seasons in the off-season of North American Major League Baseball ( MLB), and in which players from the MLB -level cadres are partly used.

Before the suspension, the 2007/08 season and the resumption of gaming operations in 2008, the League was officially called Liga de Béisbol Profesional de Puerto Rico ( LBPPR, Spanish for " Professional Baseball League of Puerto Rico ").

Game Mode

Each team will play 48 matches in the regular season, including in the seasons 2008/ 09 and 2009/10 Inter League games in the series in December against the teams in the league Dominicana de Béisbol Invernal from the Dominican Republic. In the season 2010/ 11, this Inter League games do not take place, however. In January, then play the top four teams in another league round of 12 games per team, the two participants in the Best-of -Seven Final Series from. Until 2009/10, there had been even a semi-final ( best-of -seven ).

History

The LBPPR was built in 1938 as a semi-pro league de Béisbol de Puerto Rico. The six founding teams were the Criollos de Caguas, the Grises de Humacao, the Indios de Mayagüez, the Piratas de Ponce Kofresí that Senadores de San Juan and the Venerables de Guayama. A year later the Tiburones de Aguadilla and Cangrejeros de Santurce were added.

In August 2007 it was announced that the season 2007/ 08 had to be canceled due to declining viewership and revenue over the last ten years. The league announced its intention to prepare a new marketing strategy and a restructuring of the league. In recent years, the LBPPR had suffered on the audience under increasing competition from football. In May 2008, the league announced the resumption of gaming operations for the 2008/ 09 season. The Atenienses de Manati went back to their old home Santurce, a district of San Juan, where they had heard as Cangrejeros de Santurce one of the most important teams in the league history. They opened on 6 November 2008 against the Gigantes de Carolina the new season that will bring a new beginning for the professional baseball in Puerto Rico.

In the 2009/10 season, the league consisted of only five teams since the Cangrejeros again not participate in the match operation. In the season 2010/11 replaced the Senadores de San Juan de Arecibo Lobos.
