Limeuil
Limeuil is a commune with 331 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Dordogne in the Aquitaine region. It belongs to the canton of Sainte- alvere and the Local Government Association, Le Terroir de la Truffe. The municipality is one of the most beautiful villages in France.
Geography
Limeuil located in the Pays du Grand Bergeracois, a part of the Périgord, at the mouth of the Vézère in the Dordogne at an average altitude of 123 meters above sea level 33 km east of Bergerac, the seat of the Prefecture for the district of the same name. The municipality has an area of 10.57 square kilometers.
History
In the years 1909 and 1913, numerous engraved limestone slabs were with animal motifs found during archaeological excavations in the village of Limeuil that the Magdalenian - were dated ( 18,000 12,000 BC).
1793 Limeuil received in the wake of the French Revolution ( 1789-1799 ) the status of a municipality and became chief town of a canton. 1801 received the community through administrative reform under the government of Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821 ) the right to local self-government and became part of the canton of Sainte- alvere. Most residents had Limeuil 1831 ( 929 ). After 1891, the population declined sharply. Least inhabitants, the municipality had 1999 ( 315).

Culture and sights
The church of Saint -Martin dates from the 12th century. In the north wall of the nave is the number 1194 engraved with the date of the consecration of the church by the Bishop Adhemar de la Tour of the Diocese of Périgueux. The rectangular side chapel was built in the 13th or 14th century. The upper part of the choir tower was built in the 18th century. The church was established in 1965 as a monument historique classified ( historic monument ').
Economy
In Limeuil wine appellation Périgord is made. There are many tourist facilities on the beaches, such as canoeing and riding stables. A hotel, numerous hotels, restaurants and a camping site are available as accommodation options available. The estate Domaine de la Vitrolle includes a manor house that can be rented for events, and several smaller tourist accommodation. There are also some crafts and shops in Limeuil.
