German masters before 1903

Even before the formation of the German Football Association in Germany there were a number of other football associations, which fought out also ( unofficially ) " German " championships. The first was founded in Germany Football Federation was 1890, the Federation of German soccer players (BDF; whose first master of Berliner FC Germania 1888 ), which in 1891, the German Football and Cricket Federation ( DFuCB; Master: The English FC 1890 Berlin) followed, both with based in Berlin. Such limited regional associations were formed in the following years also in other parts of Germany and in turn, played their own championships, but few of them were able to get a long time and were usually integrated into the regional associations of the DFB.

In 1894, it should be between the master of DFuCB (Berliner TUFC Viktoria 89) and the Master of the South German Football Union (FC Hanau 93) come to the final of the total German championship. Hanau occurred (the game should take place in Berlin ) but not at, after which the winner Viktoria due to the high travel costs - has been declared - and becoming the first all-German masters. Symbolically it 113 years later, on 21 and 28 July 2007 on the repetition of the final two games, which the Victoria finally with 3:0 and 1:1 also could sporty decide for themselves.

Giants of the DFB

Other German champions next to the DFB

In addition to the DFB were established in the 1910s to 1930s, several parallel- carrying championships, the title holders are now mostly forgotten. There were various reasons for these parallel structures. So was the German Gymnastics Association according to the " pure lichen divorce" their own championships from, as well as the Workers 'Gymnastics and Sports Federation, the fighting community for Red sports unit ( to both of these: see also workers' sports in Germany ) and the German youth force. The existence of such championships is explained by the existence of social, political, trade union or religious segregation in society. So, for example, formed a communist dominated "parallel society ", which fought out their own championships on the sporting level, however, were not organized in the DFB or another rival organization.
