List of mines in the Harz
This list provides an overview of the mines, tunnels and shafts in the resin and its foreland.
The Mining of non-ferrous metals and silver in the resin reaches back to the first millennium before Christ. Slag finds in Dvina occupy a smelting of iron ores from Bad Grund in the first, and Upper Harz and the Rammelsberg ore in the third century after Christ. The first mention of the Harz mining was carried out by Widukind of Corvey in 968
In the following centuries besides metal and iron ore flow and barite, potash and rock salt, roofing slate, gypsum, pyrite, lignite, and even coal were mined in the resin in several periods from the Middle Ages to the industrial era.
The last time being Harz Mining, the pit clouds hill in Bad Loud Mountain, presented in 2007 to operate. Unlike many other mines, the deposit was exhausted.
