List of Nobel laureates in Literature
The Nobel Prize for Literature has been awarded annually since 1901 and is endowed since 2012 with eight million Swedish crowns (about 893,000 Euros ). For the selection of the laureates, the Swedish Academy is responsible. Alfred Nobel, the founder of the five Nobel Prizes in his will that the prize winners for literature is said to have " created the best work in an ideal direction ". The award is presented each year on 10 December, the anniversary of the death of Alfred Nobel, awarded by the Swedish king. Since it was first awarded a total of 110 writers have received the Nobel Prize in Literature. Among these 97 men ( 88.2 %) and 13 women are ( 11.8 %). Nobody has been repeatedly awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. From 1901 to 2013, the price was 102 times awarded undivided to a person. Only four times the price between two people was divided (1904, 1917, 1966 and 1974 ), but never between three people, although this would be possible according to the statute. Seven times the prize was not awarded, most recently in 1943.
