List of political parties in Syria

Many political parties in Syria already exist since the French Mandate. From 1963, however, the Baath Party ruled in a one-party system: Article 8 of the Constitution stipulates that " the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party leads the society and the state ." Since 1972 it has allowed the parties who accept the role of leader of the Baath Party and the Arab- socialist and nationalist orientation to act as members of the National Progressive Front ( unit list).

The new constitution of 2012 grants the right to form political parties outside the National Progressive Front, to date, three parties were allowed. According to the new law on political parties, an approved party must be at least 50 founding members at the age of 25 and have about that are Syrian citizens and not members of another party for more than 10 years.
