List of ponds in the Lower Harz Pond and Ditch System

As archaeological cultural monuments are protected under DenkmSchG LSA all man-made historic ponds and ditches in the state of Saxony- Anhalt, regardless of age or current function. Listed are only the formerly used for mining industry and its derivatives ponds of the Lower Harz. Shall not include used only for agricultural or fishing ponds for economic reasons.

Mining in Strassberg and Neudorf

These ponds are located in the coalfields Strassberg, Silberhütte, pear and Neudorf. The total storage capacity was approximately 17.5 million cubic meters.

Lower Harz Water Regale

The ponds of the Lower Harz Water Regale are around 20 smaller and larger storage ponds. They originated mostly from about the beginning of the 17th century between the upper Lude, Big Auersberg, Strassberg, Neudorf and Silberhütte. Some ponds are classified as a dam. With the Gräfiggründer pond also the second oldest dam pond Germany belongs to the system.

More ponds

The also used by the Straßberger Pochwerken, but located in Anhalt -Bernburg, Pond is, unlike the ponds connected by silver Hütter Art ditch on the left side of the Selke and is usually not attributed to the Lower Harz Water Regale. This also applies to the small pond of Arts in Heller reason, drive the water via field sucker rod pumps in the pear tree.

Other mining ponds

Listed are only the ponds in Saxony- Anhalt. The ponds in the Thuringian Unterharz not belong to the memorial area in the Lower Harz Pond and grave system.
