List of Prime Ministers of Iraq

As prime minister of Iraq, both the Government shall apply during the British Mandate (1920-1932) and the pro-British Hashemite monarchy ( until 1958 ) as well as those Prime Ministers of the following republics.

British mandate

During the British Mandate of Mesopotamia from 1920 to 1932, the Office of the Prime Minister was installed before the introduction of the Iraqi monarchy. The first Prime Minister Abd al -Rahman al - Kailani al - Naqib imposed the condition that the Cabinet should have no Shiite members.

Kingdom of Iraq

Most frequently ( 14 times 1932-1958 ) was Nuri as- Said, the Iraqi prime minister, his most prominent opponent was Rashid Ali al - Gailani. The ministerial posts were factually distributed exclusively among the 40 leading families in the time of the Kingdom of Iraq.

Republic of Iraq

As the Republic of Iraq, both presidential and parliamentary republic, prime minister since 1958, several times there were 1958-1968, 1991-1994, and there again since 2004. During the years 1967, 1968-1991 and 1994-2003, the respective president took the same time the Office of the Prime Minister true.

After the Third Gulf War and the fall of the Baath regime, the country was first under Allied administration. Since 2004, Iraq formally back a parliamentary republic.
