Ljubomir Ljubojević

Ljubomir Ljubojević (Serbian Љубомир Љубојевић; born November 2, 1950 in Titovo Užice ) is a Serbian, formerly Yugoslav chess player. He is considered by Svetozar Gligorić as the most successful chess champion of Yugoslavia.

Like a comet appeared to the young Ljubomir Ljubojević to the early 1970s on the international tournament arena. His second place finish at the European Youth Championships 1969/70 in Groningen was at home rewarded with an invitation to the Grand Master tournament in Sarajevo. The young man took his chance and won the tournament together with Grandmaster Bruno Parma. His victories continued and the World Chess Federation FIDE awarded him in 1971 the title of Grand Master.

Ljubojević made ​​many attempts to get under the candidate for the world championship, but he managed it never. Its highly tactical and risky style always found the enthusiasm of the chess lover, but it was the top players fairly quickly possible to adjust to him. He was one of the most successful players of the 1970s and 1980s. His current Elo rating is 2571 (as of August 2012), but it will run as inactive because he has not played a game more -evaluated since the NH Tournament in Amsterdam in August 2010.
