Loches

Loches is a commune with 6455 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Indre- et- Loire in the Centre region; it is the administrative seat of the arrondissement and canton of hole hole.

With the communities Beaulieu- les- Loches, Ferrière- sur -Beaulieu and Perrusson hole forms a small agglomeration of about ten thousand inhabitants near the city of Tours, with which it is connected by the TER. The inhabitants of the hole are called Lochois or Lochoises.

Geography

Hole is a small medieval town, which is dominated by one of Europe's oldest donjon. Builder of the keep was Fulk III. the Black, Count of Anjou.

Economy

  • The Donjon: 36 meters high, square floor plan and excellent degree of preservation; probably built by Fulk III. of Anjou in the 11th century. The fort was in the 15th century by Louis XI. converted into a royal prison. It is home to the cells of Philippe de Commynes, Cardinal Balue and the Duke of Milan, who passed the time with murals. 1801 gave Napoleon the state prison at the department further.   • The Logis Royal: Built dominant on a mountain spur and from here the valley of the Indre, the Logis Royal was one of the favorite residences of Valois during the Hundred Years War.   • The Collegiate Church of Saint -Ours: Romanesque and Gothic building from the 11th and 12th centuries whose style mix of the long construction period is due to.   • The Tour Saint -Antoine: Former church steeple and bell tower of the city, 52 meters high. Built 1529-1575, he is the only Renaissance bell tower in Touraine. In general, not accessible to the public.
