Lockyer Valley Region

Geography

The region is located southeast of the state about 75 km southwest of the capital, Brisbane and on the east by Ipswich City.

Administrative headquarters of the LGA is Gatton with about 5300 inhabitants. History

Today's Lockyer Valley Region was founded in 2008 from the two Shires Gatton and Laidley. It is named after the explorer Edmund Lockyer, who came to the area of the Lockyer Valley in 1825.

Management

The Lockyer Valley Regional Council has seven members. The Mayor ( mayor) and six other Councillor shall be elected by all residents of the region. The LGA is not divided into electoral districts.
