The Tartar honeysuckle ( Lonicera tatarica ) is a flowering plant in the genus of honeysuckle ( Lonicera ) from the family of the Honeysuckle family ( Caprifoliaceae ).

Description

Vegetative characteristics

The Tatarian honeysuckle grows as a deciduous, upright shrub with plant height mostly 3 ( 1 to 4) meters. The branched, horizontally projecting or arching branches inclined initially have a cord, which is brown, and later they are hollow. The bark is aged gray and bare. The green parts are more or less frosted strong. The small winter buds have four pairs of ovoid bud scales.

The constant against arranged leaves have a 2-6 mm long petiole. The simple leaf blade is ovate to ovate -oblong with a length of 3 to 5 cm and a width of 1 to 2 cm, sometimes with slightly elongated heart-shaped or rounded Spreitengrund and usually acute or obtuse Spreitenspitze and bewimpertem margin. Both leaf surfaces are hairy bald or sparse, sometimes significantly fluffy, the upper leaf surface is dark green and the leaf underside pale to bluish- green.

Generative features

The flowering period extends from May to June. The pendant standing on a 1 to 2 cm long (similar in length to the crown) inflorescence stem inflorescences are reduced to just a couple flowers. The couple settled against bracts are linear to obovate - lanceolate with a length of 2 to 7 mm. The two pairs of permanent, free, ciliated bracts are at a length of 1 mm, sometimes as long as the ovary and circular - ovate.

The hermaphrodite flowers are zygomorphic and fünfzählig double perianth. The five calyx teeth triangular- lanceolate, with a length of up to 1 mm. The color of the petals, ranging from pale -pink to dark red, sometimes white or roasafarben when fading to yellow coloring. The 1.5 to 2 cm long petals are fused into a 5 to 6 mm long tube, which is slightly curved at their base. The crown ends two-lipped. The upper lip is vierlappig, the two lateral Kronlappen are deeply divided and spread out and the two middle Kronlappen are easily shared. The lower lip is curved back. The two adjacent ovary are not fused. The five stamens and everywhere fluffy hairy stylus overhang the crown.

The spherical with a diameter of 5 to 6 mm berries ripen from July to September and are colored bright red, scarlet, yellow orange to yellowish. The 2 to 2.3 mm large seeds are smooth with concave dots.

The chromosome number is 2n = 18

Synecology

Pollination is by hoverflies. The berries are a welcome bird food. The Tatarian honeysuckle is caterpillar food plant oligophagous at Honeysuckle Kappeneule ( Callierges ramosa ) ( Esper, 1786) and polyphagous the double toothed tensioner ( Odontopera bidentata ) ( Clerck, 1759) from the family of the tensioner ( Geometridae ).

Occurrence

The natural home of the Tatar honeysuckle in West Siberia and Central Asia: Japan, Korea, Kyrgyzstan, in the Chinese provinces of Hebei (not secured ), Heilongjiang, Liaoning, northern Xinjiang and Russia in the southeastern European part and Western Siberia.

It is naturalized in France, the Iberian Peninsula, Central Europe and in North America, ie it acts strongly as a neophyte in appearance. In Europe, it is sometimes used consciously as a landscape woods.

In China, it thrives at the edges of woods and in thickets at altitudes 700-1600 m.

Use

The varieties are used as ornamental plants in parks and gardens.

Some varieties are: ' Arnold's Red' and 'Hack 's Red'.
