Lornay

Lornay is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Lornay is located at 325 m above sea level. M., near Rumilly, about 18 km west of the town of Annecy (air line). The farming village extends north Albanais, on the western edge of the wide valley of Fier, at the foot of the Montagne du Gros Foug.

The area of ​​9.65 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Albanais. History

The territory of Lornay was already inhabited during the Roman period, which based on various tracks ( including an inscription in the church wall ) could be detected. First mentioned, however, the place is only in the early 15th century.

Attractions

The parish church of Saint- Maurice was built in 1837 in the style of Neo-Romanesque. The Castle of Lornay dates from the 16th century, has been restored and refurbished in the 19th century and today serves as a farm. Remains of the Château de la Cour (originally from the 13th century ) are preserved.

Population

With 514 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Lornay one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1861 were still in Lornay counted 495 inhabitants). Since the early 1990s, however, a significant increase in population was recorded again.

Economy and infrastructure
