Lubeník

Lubenik (Hungarian Lubény - to 1907 Lubenyik ) is a community east of the center of Slovakia, with 1326 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). Administratively it belongs to the Okres Revúca which is in the district Banskobystrický kraj.

Geography

The municipality is situated in the Slovak Ore Mountains, more precisely in part Mountains Revúcka Highlands. The village is situated in the valley of the river Muráň as it flows from northwest to southeast. To date, can be found in the surrounding mountains magnesite. Lubenik is located on the regional road 532 between Jelšava ( 6 km) and Revúca (9 km).

Although the site is officially has no parts of municipalities, there are the following districts: Chyžnian Voda, Kolónia, Majer and Marvan.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1427 as Lwbnyk writing and even at that time were in place a few huts and hammer mills. A real boom experienced the iron trade in the 19th century. Beginning of the 20th century a Magnesitbruch and a furnace were opened. 1956-1970 erected a large magnesite, which today exists and operates under the name Slovmag.
