Luigi Gui

Luigi Gui ( born September 26, 1914 in Padua, † April 26, 2010 ) was an Italian politician.

Biography

Gui graduated with a scholarship, the Collegio Augustinianum and subsequently studied at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan, where he joined also the Catholic student movement Federazione Universitaria Cattolica Italiana ( FUCI ).

During the Second World War he did his military service with the mountain troops ( Alpini ) on the Eastern Front. After his return to Italy, he was a member of the resistance movement in Veneto.

After the Second World War, he began his political career as a member of the Christian Democrats (DC ) with the election as a member of the Constituent Assembly ( Assemblea Costituente ) and then the Chamber of Deputies ( Camera dei deputati ).

On 21 February 1962, he was first appointed by Prime Minister Fanfani amine goals as Minister of Public Instruction ( Ministro della Public Education ) in a government. The Office of the Minister of Education, he held also in the subsequent governments of Giovanni Leone and Aldo Moro to 24 June 1968. During this time he became particularly one for a reform of the middle school.

Prime Minister Leone appointed him then as Minister of Defence ( Ministro della Difesa ). As such, he also belonged to the subsequent Cabinet of Mariano Rumor until 23 March 1970. Because of this activity was later determined against him as part of the Lockheed scandal. However, he was acquitted in contrast to his successor Mario Tanassi by the Italian Constitutional Court.

On 7 July 1973 he was Prime Minister Rumor as Health Minister ( Ministro della Sanità ) appointed to the government and charge of the department until the end of Rumors term of office on 14 March 1974.

Prime Minister Moro finally appointed him on 23 November 1974 Minister of the Interior ( Ministro dell'Interno ) in its reigning until February 12, 1976 4 Government. Later he was a member of the Senate ( Senato della Repubblica).
