The power plant Lünen is a coal-fired power plant in Lünen in the Unna.

The operator is STEAG and is part of the consortium of municipal utilities Rhine -Ruhr. The power plant was built in 1938 to supply a the nearby aluminum plant of Steag. The former performance was 180 megawatts.

The plant now has two power generating units with a total capacity of 507 megawatts; the two blocks have services to 350 megawatts and 157 megawatts. In addition, since 1984, is a 110 -megawatt turbine generator set for railway electricity available. Besides generating electricity, the power plant fed since the end of 2003 into the district heating network of the city Lünen. The annual coal consumption is 960,000 tons and CO2 emissions of 2.1 million tonnes ( 980 g of CO2 per kWh). The smaller of the two power plant units feeds on the 110- kV level of the switchgear Lünen in the distribution of Western power, the greater the power block on the 220 kV level of the switchgear Elmenhorst into the transmission network of Amprion and DB energy.

In November 2012 it was announced that Steag and German railway have extended the contract for the supply of 110 MW traction power until 2018.

The chimney of the power plant has a height of 250 meters. The power plant draws its cooling water from the lip.
