Luxe-Sumberraute

Luxe Sumberraute (Basque Lukuze - Altzumarta ) is a commune with 338 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Pyrénées- Atlantiques in the Aquitaine region. It belongs to the district of Bayonne and the canton of Saint-Palais.

Luxe Sumberraute part of the Pays de Mixe in the Basque province of Lower Navarre. Neighboring municipalities are: Labets -Biscay to the north, Amendeuix - Oneix and Garris in the east, the west and Béguios Beyrie -sur- Joyeuse in the south.

History

Luxe Luxe was the capital of the county, which belonged to the Kingdom of Navarre in the Middle Ages. In the 18th century Luxe was a sovereign principality in the possession of the house of Montmorency. Luxe and Sumberraute were merged on 27 June 1842.
