Luxembourg Marathon
The Luxembourg - Marathon ( full name ING Luxembourg Marathon Night after the main sponsor ING Groep ), first in 2006 as a Europe - Marathon held (until 2012 ), in addition to the Echternach Marathon is the only marathon in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. He is one of the few marathons that are at night, and in the evening held. The start is on the Kirchberg plateau next to the event hall Luxexpo. First, the European Quarter is surrounded before then about the " Rout Bréck " ( Grand Duchess Charlotte Bridge ) goes to the upper town. There you will initially run a loop through the district Limpertsberg and then passes through the city park on the Place d'Armes in the city center. From there it goes back for the half-marathon runners directly on the Rout Bréck goal in the Coque, while a loop by Belair and a connect for the marathon runner by Hollerech before it goes over the Adolphe bridge into the station district. After the loop there was also run, crossing on the Passerelle the Pétrusse valley and enters the now nightly illuminated downtown, past the Cathedral and the Palais Großherzoglichem. Finally, it goes back on the Rout Bréck on the Kirchberg plateau, which is repeated once more to the east end before it goes to the finishing line in the main hall of Luxexpo. The price is attractive, but also bumpy and winding and therefore not necessarily suitable for the record.
At the premiere runners took part from 60 countries. The largest group was the locals with just over a quarter of the participants, followed by Germans, French and Belgians.
