Lydie Polfer

Lydie Polfer ( born November 22, 1952 in Luxembourg (city) ) is a Luxembourg politician.

Life

After completing her schooling at the Robert Schumann School in Luxembourg in 1972, she studied law and put 1976 state examination at the University of Grenoble from. In 1977, she earned the University Institute of European and International Studies in Grenoble in specialist European integration an additional diploma. In the same year it was registered as a lawyer in Luxembourg.

Lydie Polfer is the daughter of the former mayor of the city of Luxembourg, Camille Polfer (1980-1981), and is married to the Luxembourg Ambassador to the United Nations, Hubert Wurth. The couple has a daughter.

Policy

In 1979 she was first deputy of the Demokratesch party and was given the mandate even for the next elections up to and including 1999. From 1982 to 1999 she was Mayor of the city of Luxembourg.

From 1984, with interruptions, until 1994, she was a member of the European Parliament. After the 2004 elections and the departure of the DP from the government, she was again a Member of the European Parliament.

From 1994 to 2004 she held the Presidency of the Demokratesch party. In the cabinet of Jean -Claude Juncker it was from 1999 to 2004 Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.

In January 2008, she was after resignation of Colette Flesch alderman of the city of Luxembourg. Since December 2013 Lydie Polfer is again Mayor of Luxembourg, as their predecessors Beggar Xavier has taken over the office of the Luxembourg prime minister.
