The city of Maceió is the capital of the Brazilian state of Alagoas. It is located on the Atlantic coast and in August 2013 996.736 inhabitants.

History

On the territory of present-day Maceió there since the 17th century sugar cane plantations. In 1815 the settlement Maceió received city status in 1839 and became the capital of Alagoas.

Tourism

Because of the beaches and the hinterland with coconut and mango gardens Maceió is very popular today with tourists.
