Machilly

Machilly is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Machilly is located on 532 m above sea level. M., approximately 15 kilometers east-northeast of the city of Geneva (air line). The village extends into the Talniederung of Foron the northwest foot of the mountain range of Les Voirons, near the border with Switzerland.

The area of ​​5.76 square kilometers municipal area includes a section on the edge of Lake Geneva basin. The area is crossed from north-east to south-west from Foron (tributary of the Arve ) in a valley that was once originated as meltwater channel at the edge of the glacial Rhone Glacier. History

Various traces indicate a settlement of the municipality of Machilly in prehistoric times. The village is mentioned in the 15th century.

Population

With 966 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Machilly one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. Since the early 1960s, a continuous increase in population was recorded. Outside the old village center caused to the promising slopes of Les Voirons numerous houses.
