Saint-Cergues

Saint- Cergues is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Saint- Cergues is located on 560 m above sea level. Level, about 14 kilometers east of the City of Geneva (air line). The village extends slightly increased on the lower western slopes of the mountain range of Les Voirons, above the valley of Foron (tributary of the Arve ), near the border with Switzerland.

History

The municipality of Saint- Cergues was already inhabited in prehistoric times. The place name comes from the holy Cyricus, a martyr of the 4th century back.

Attractions

The village church was built in the Gothic Revival style. At the edge of the forest above the village stands the Chapel of Clermont from the 19th century. Preserved are also two places of residence, namely the Château de Neydens and the Château de Locon. At the southern municipality border is the Dolmen Cave aux fées.

Population

With 3232 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Saint- Cergues belongs to the medium-sized towns in the Haute-Savoie region. Since the early 1960s, a continuous increase in population was recorded thanks to the attractive residential area.
