Mackenzie King Island

Mackenzie King Iceland is located in the western part of the Canadian Arctic archipelago, and one of the Queen Elizabeth Islands. The largest western part belongs to the Northwest Territories, only a small eastern portion is part of the Canadian territory of Nunavut.

The island is 5081.1 km ² in size and was discovered in June 1915, the Arctic researchers Vilhjálmur Stefánsson, who held it for an initial portion of the adjacent Borden Island, from which it is, however, separated by the Strait Wilkins. Due to the Royal Canadian Air Force the error was discovered in 1947 when flying, and two years later the island was named after the Canadian Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King.

The island is flat with a maximum height of 125 m.
