Mačvanska Mitrovica (Serbian Cyrillic - Мачванска Митровица ) is a small town in the Opština Sremska Mitrovica in Okrug Srem in the northern Serbian province of Vojvodina. In the 2002 census, the town had 4072 inhabitants. In the census of 1991, there were 3788 residents. While living with the first results of the 2011 census, 3873 people in Mačvanska Mitrovica. With its 4072 inhabitants Mačvanska Mitrovica is ranked 91 of the largest cities of Serbia.

Name

The city Mačvanska Mitrovica had several names in history. Mačvanska Mitrovica Mitrovica means of Mačva ( region ), the in Serbia there are the towns of Sremska Mitrovica in the region of Syrmia, and Kosovska Mitrovica in the Serbian province of Kosovo.

By the year 1918 the city Podrinska Mitrovica said. Also, the city in Serbia under the name Mala Mitrovica ( Mitrovica Small ), and Mitrovica Mitrovica Srpska (Serbian Mitrovica ) is known. In Hungarian, the city bears the name Szenternye.

Geography

The city is located in the Opština Sremska Mitrovica, in the Srem Okrug. Only Mačvanska Mitrovica and 5 neighboring villages are located to the south (right) of the river, while the largest part of the municipality of Sremska Mitrovica is located on the left bank of the Sava. Mačvanska Mitrovica and the neighboring villages Noćaj, Salas Noćajski, Radenković, Zasavica I and II Zasavica, are the only parts of Vojvodina located in the Mačva region.

In addition, these villages are the only example of pre-war territory ( before 1918 ) in the Kingdom of Serbia ( Central Serbia) which became a part of the autonomous province of Vojvodina. They are located south of the Sava, whereas the rest of Vojvodina consists of the regions of Srem, Banat and Backa and north of the Sava is located. The city lies on the southern ( right ) bank of the Sava.

Opposite is the town of Sremska Mitrovica, capital of the region of Syrmia. Mačvanska Mitrovica Sremska Mitrovica are as they are just across the Sava, twin cities and an urban area. The city is located around 37 km from Novi Sad and 70 km from Belgrade.

Population

Mačvanska Mitrovica had in the census 2002 4072 inhabitants, while there were 1991 3788 inhabitants. According to the last census, the population of Mačvanska Mitrovica fell slightly to 3873 inhabitants. The population represent a majority Orthodox Serbs. In addition, 13 more people live in the small town, these are: Croats, Yugoslavs, Hungarians, Slovaks, Montenegrins, Ruthenians, Ukrainians, Russians, Slavic Muslims, Macedonians, Albanians and Roma. Also 4 Donauschwaben live in the city. The town consists of 1240 households.

Demography

History

Mačvanska Mitrovica is the first time, while the membership of Serbia mentioned for the Ottoman Empire. In the city there is a monument of gratitude for the St. Ambrose, in his Memorial Day 1850 a plague epidemic came to an end. In 1938 the city was affected by a small flood, but that hardly caused damage.

Opština Mačvanska Mitrovica

By 1965, the city was the seat of the Opština Mačvanska Mitrovica. This community consisted of the settlements: Zasavica I, II Zasavica, Mačvanska Mitrovica, Noćaj, Radenković, Ravnje and Salas Noćajski. With resolution of the community, is the whole area of the former municipality Mačvanska Mitrovica, has become a part of the municipality of Sremska Mitrovica.

Religion

The majority of the inhabitants of the city belong to the Orthodox Christianity, most profess the Serbian Orthodox Church. Also living in Mačvanska Mitrovica 47 Catholics and Muslims 3. In the center of town near the river Sava, the Serbian Orthodox Church is the transfer of the relics of St. Nicholas.

Sports

In the city Mačvanskoj Mitrovica since 1922 exists the FußballmannschaftFK Podrinje, which plays with average success in the lower leagues of Serbian football. Since 2006, the Volleyball Club Mačva. Manager of the club are the Sportproffesor Branimir Žilić and the coach Stanislav Savić. The club consists mainly of schoolchildren. The Volleyball Club is not only actively involved in the promotion and popularization of volleyball, but also tries the children to convey a healthy lifestyle, respect for people and nature. In addition, the club also helps the younger generations at the correct orientation of their lives.
