Magdalene Sibylle of Saxony

Princess Magdalena Sibylla of Saxony ( born December 23, 1617 in Dresden, † January 6, 1668 in Altenburg ) was by marriage, Crown Princess of Denmark and Norway and later Duchess of Saxe- Altenburg.

Life

Magdalena Sibylla was the daughter of Elector Johann Georg I of Saxony from the House of Wettin ( Albertine line) and his second wife Princess Magdalene Sibylle of Prussia.

In 1634 married Princess Magdalena Sibylle in Copenhagen the Danish Crown Prince Christian of Denmark and Norway. After thirteen years of marriage remained childless.

His second wife she was married from 1652 to the Duke Friedrich Wilhelm II of Saxe -Altenburg. From their marriage three children were born:

• Christian (1654-1663), Hereditary Prince of Saxe- Altenburg
• Johanna Magdalena (1656-1686) ∞ Johann Adolf I, Duke of Saxe- Weissenfels (1649-1697)
• Friedrich Wilhelm III. (1657-1672), the last representative of the House of Saxe -Altenburg

Her grave is in the royal crypt of the Castle Church in Altenburg. Originally planned as a widow seat pin Magdalene was not completed until after her death.
