The Magdeburg-Cochstedt Airport ( own nomination: Airport Magdeburg Cochstedt, IATA code CSO, ICAO code EDBC international) is a commercial airport in Saxony- Anhalt. It is situated around 35 km south-southwest of Magdeburg in Salzlandkreis in the district of the city Hecklingen south of the present district Cochstedt. The nearest large towns are Aschersleben and Staßfurt.

History

Development to 1990

The Cochstedt Airport dates back to 1957, when a base air-force has been set up on the premises of the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany. In 1968, the start and runway was extended and expanded the airport for logistics operations.

Because of financial difficulties IIH asked in early 2009 to defer payment of up to two years, but agreed to take over the running costs at this time. After June 30, 2009 passed a final payment deadline for the first purchase price installment of one million euros, made of Saxony-Anhalt Minister of Economic Affairs of his right to withdraw, raising his contract with IIH with effect on 1 July 2009. Development since 2010
