Magomed Omarov (boxer)

Magomed Schachbanowitsch Omarov (Russian Магомед Шахбанович Омаров; born October 16, 1989 in Kaspijsk, Dagestan ) is a Russian boxer Dagestani origin. He was European champion in 2011 in Ankara, finishing at the Olympic Games 2012 in London the 5th place, respectively in the super heavyweight division.

Career

Magomed Omarov began as a teenager in his native Dagestan to play basketball and boxing. However, he soon focused on boxing. He was especially a member of the Sport Club Dinamo Makhachkala. His boxing coach were or are: R. M. Achmadov, Zubur Dschafarow and Yusup Aydamirow. He is a student at the University of Makhachkala. At a size of 1.95 meters, it has grown from a light heavyweight on the heavy weight in the super heavyweight inside.

In 2008 he first came into existence in the Russian Junior Championship. He took time after one defeat in the quarter- final against Denis Latypov heavyweight the 5th Place. In 2009 he started for the first time in the Russian Championship of seniors. He reached the semifinals here in the heavyweight division in which he however lost to Spartak Bachtjarow on points. Also at the Russian Championships Seniors 2010 and 2011 he reached the semi-finals, respectively, and thus the 3rd place in the super heavyweight division. In both championships he was defeated by Sergei Kuzmin.

In June 2011, Magomed Omarov was sent in place of the Russian master Sergei Kuzmin, who at the 2011 World Championships in Baku was later used at the European Championships in Ankara in the super heavyweight at the start. He could fully convince and there was point with victories over Alexander Trifonov, Ukraine ( 24:9 ) and Milutin Stankovic, Serbia (17-13 ), a demolition victory in the second round of Mikhail Bachtidse, Georgia and one point victory over Olympic champion and multiple world Champion Roberto Cammarelle from Italy ( 20:14) the new European Champion.

After Sergei Kuzmin could not convince at the World Boxing Championship in Baku in 2011, he left already in the round of " last 32 " and therefore was only on the 17th place, Magomed Omarov was sent to the Olympic Qualif. tournament in Trabzon. He did this heavy task confidently and won the tournament with five wins and takes back so that the spot at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. In London, he came in his first fight to a clear points victory over Dominic Breazeale from the United States ( 19:8 ), but then was defeated in the quarter- final against the World Champion in 2011 Magomedrasul Majidov from Azerbaijan to points ( 14:17 ), which he left and 5th place missed a medal.

2013 Omarov won two international events in Kaunas and Debrecen before he won the Universiade in Kazan.
