The municipality Malla is a district in the department of La Paz

Location in near space

The municipality Malla is one of five Municipalities of the province Loayza and lies in the eastern part of the province. It is bordered on the northwest by the municipality of Cairoma, on the west by the municipality of Luribay, to the south by the municipality of Yaco, and on the east by the province Inquisivi.

The municipality has 35 localities ( Localidades ), the administrative center of the municipality is Malla with 875 inhabitants in the central part of the municipality. (2001)

Geography

The municipality Malla is on an average height of 4000 m in the Cordillera Serranía de Sicasica, between the Bolivian Altiplano in the west and the Amazon lowlands to the east.

The mean average temperature of the region is located at 9 ° C, the annual precipitation is 500-600 mm (see climate chart Viloco ), with a pronounced dry season from May to August, monthly values ​​of less than 15 mm of precipitation.

The population of the municipality of Malla has nearly tripled in the past two decades:

At the last census in 2001, the municipality had a population density of 11.5 inhabitants / km ². The life expectancy of newborns was 58.8 years, the infant mortality rate was 6.9 per cent ( 1992) rose to 7.8 percent in 2001.

The literacy rate for those over 19 years is 73.9 percent, and 86.6 percent, although in men and 60.4 percent for women ( 2001).

83.1 percent of the population speak Spanish, 95.2 percent speak Aymara, Quechua and 1.1 percent. (2001)

64.3 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 9.2 percent have no sanitary facilities ( 2001).

100 percent of the total of 619 households own at least one radio, 8.7 percent a television, 17.3 percent a bicycle, a motorcycle 0.5 percent, 1.1 percent, a car, a refrigerator, and 0.2 percent 0.5 percent a telephone. (2001)
