Målselv ( Sami Málatvuomi ) is a municipality in northern Norway in the province (county ) Troms. She is one of the most important bases of the Norwegian armed forces.

It includes the area around the Malangenfjord and its hinterland up to the Swedish border to the lush mountain valley of the eponymous river Målselva.

Målselv was founded by settlers from southern Norway. The place Østerdalen was founded by them in 1796. In the district Målselvs is the Bardufoss Airport.

The place is Olsborg editorial office of the local newspaper Nye Troms, whose distribution area includes the municipalities Bardu and Balsfiord. Administrative center is the village of Moen. In the south of the township landscape Bardufoss begins; there are the settlements Andselv and Heggelia. Heggelia is a location of the Norwegian armed forces and the headquarters of the 6th Army Division and Helicopter Squadron 339 of the Air Force.

In the hinterland there are the villages round Haug, Øverbygd, Skjold and Holt. Also Skjold is an army base; here an infantry unit is established. For the Swedish border towards the National Park Øvre Dividalen is (740 km ²).
