Manuel Olivares

Manuel Olivares Lapeña ( born April 2, 1909 in Son Servera, † February 16, 1976 ) was a Spanish football player and coach.

Playing career

Association

Olivares came in Son Servera in the Balearic Islands to the world. In his childhood he moved with his family to San Sebastián and from then went through the youth teams of Real Sociedad. In 1928, he signed his first professional contract with the second division Deportivo Alavés.

1930 rose Olivares with his club in the Primera División. His debut in the top division in Spain took place on December 7, 1930, the opening day of the season 1930 / 31st Alavés met calculated on Real Sociedad. Olivares scored two goals, the game ended 2-2. Overall, the Spaniard played 14 games, scoring ten goals.

For the season 1931/32 Olivares moved to Real Madrid. With the Royal he won two Spanish Championships and the Copa del Rey. In addition, he was in the season 1932/33 with 16 goals scorer.

1934 Olivares left the Spanish capital and returned to Real Sociedad. By season's end, however, he rose with the club after a very mixed results in the Segunda División. Finally to season 1935/36, he moved to second division side Real Zaragoza and henceforth worked as player-coach. With Zaragoza succeeded him immediate promotion to the Primera División. Then the Spanish Civil War paralyzed the operation of gambling.

After the war, Olivares joined Hércules CF. There he worked as a player-coach. After an uneventful season in the Primera División in 1941, he joined the second division club Málaga on CD. In 1943, he finished his career at FC Algeciras.

Overall, Olivares played in the Primera División 82 games, scoring 54 goals.

National

On June 14, 1930 Olivares won his first and only match for the Spanish national team against Czechoslovakia. The game was lost with 0:2.

Coaching career

After hanging up the football boots on the nail, to Olivares decided on a coaching career. Benefit came to him here is that he had already gained experience as player-coach. Great success but failed to win. In 1945 he succeeded with UD Salamanca in the Segunda División the rise. The following year, however, rose again. In 1951, he led UD Puertollano first time in the club's history in the Tercera División, which was the third highest Spanish league at the time. After another short engagements he finished his coaching career in 1954.
