Manus Boonjumnong

Manus Boonjumnong ( Thai: มนัส บุญ จำนงค์, pronunciation: [ má - bun - Nat - Non ʤam ]; born 23 June 1980 in Ratchaburi Province, central Thailand) is a Thai boxer and Olympic champion in 2004.

In the Asian Games 2002 in Busan he already retired from the quarter-finals. 2003 subject to the counter- boxer in the Light Welterweight Russians Alexander Maletin in the semifinals of the World Cup in Bangkok and won bronze. In 2004 he took part in the Olympic Games in Athens and was, among other things with a victory over the reigning world champion Willy Blain and a controversial final victory over the Cuban participants Yudel Cedeno Olympic champion.

Thai media said he brought the huge prize money with a playboy lifestyle among the people, his sporting achievements eased. Yet in 2006 he volunteered by winning the Asian Games in Doha back in the semifinals he was against the Kazakh two -time world champion Serik Säpijew on the ground, but narrowly won on points. In the final he beat the South Koreans Hoon Shin- myung. Disappointing, however, he already was his participation in the 2007 World Championships in Chicago, so in the first round against the Japanese Masatsugu Kawachi lost.

In 2008, he was back to his form and qualified with a win at the first Asian qualifying tournament for the participation in the Olympic Games in Beijing. There he retaliated against the Japanese Kawachi for the defeat at the World Cup, and reached with further wins against Serik Säpijew and the Cubans Roniel Iglesias the final, in which, however, he surprisingly lost against Félix Díaz from the Dominican Republic, and thus took the second place.

After Boomjumnong had not taken part in international tournaments more than two years, he took a third place in 2011 in the middleweight ( -75 kg ) at the Southeast Asian Games.

Manus Boonjumnongs brother Manon is also a successful amateur boxer who reached the final of the welterweight division, among others at the 2007 World Cup.
