Patrizio Oliva

Patrizio Oliva ( born January 28, 1959 in Naples ) is an Italian former boxer, the Olympic champion and world champion was professional.

Amateur

The southpaw Olivia was European Junior Champion ( U19) 1978 Lightweight (-60 kg).

In the Mediterranean Games in 1979 in Split he won the bronze medal in the light welterweight (63.5 kg] ] and at the European Championships in the same year the silver medal. In the final he defeated Serik Konakbajew, Soviet Union ( 4-1 ). On those same Olivia met in. finals of the Olympic Games in 1980 after the previous victories over Aurelien agnan, Benin (RSC 1 ) Farez Halabi, Syria (RSC 3 ), Ace Rusevski, Yugoslavia (3:2), and Anthony Willis, United Kingdom ( 5: 0), he could return the favor (4:1 ) and thus won the gold medal also at Konakbajew. Professional

In 1980, Oliva was professional. In 1981, he won the Italian championship in light welterweight against Giuseppe Russi and after four title defenses in 1983 the European Championship against Frenchman Robert Gambini. In the following years Oliva defended that title among other things, against Antonio Guinaldo, Spain, Jose Ramon Gomez, Spain ( TKO 4 ), Michel Giroud, Switzerland, and Alessandro Scapecchi, Italy and also beat Juan Jose Gimenez, Argentina. 1986 Oliva had been established as far in the world rankings, he became the challenger for the world title on the version of the WBA. In March 1986, he beat the reigning world champion in the light welterweight Ubaldo Nestor Sacco, Argentina, by split decision ( 147-144, 145-141, 140:145 ). 1987 Oliva defended the Wetmeisterschaftstitel against Rodolfo González, Mexico, but lost him in the same year against Juan Martin Coggi, Argentina, by a knockout loss in the third round.

After the first defeat of his professional career Oliva rose to the welterweight and 1990 with a win over Kirkland Laing, UK, also in this weight class champions. After his playing career was Oliva trainer and entrepreneur. Among others, he was coach of the Italian Olympic team in 1996 and 2000. Nilia together with his wife he runs a piano bar in Formia and he leads the company Consorzio CSA for archiving and document management. He is also frequently co-commentator at Boxübertragungen on Italian television.
