Marcus Ragnarsson

Marcus Ragnarsson ( born August 13, 1971 in Östervåla ) is a retired Swedish professional ice hockey player. During his career he ran for the San Jose Sharks and Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League.

Career

Ragnarsson began his career in the game year 1989/90 in his native Sweden at Djurgårdens IF. There he remained until the end of the 1994/95 season, although he had already been selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1992 in the fifth round to 99th position by the San Jose Sharks. For the 1995/96 season the defender then joined the NHL in North America to the Sharks. Ragnarsson played until December 2002 in San Jose, but was then transferred to the Philadelphia Flyers because of the bad season history for Dan McGillis. On the U.S. East Coast, the Swede played until the end of the season 2003/04.

His best NHL season, considering his offensive stats, he had in 1995/96 when he was able to achieve 39 points in 71 games. In the 2000 /01 season he was nominated for the All-Star Game.

Also, because of the lockout the NHL season 2004/ 05 he moved Ragnarsson back to his home in Sweden, where he signed a contract with Almtuna in HockeyAllsvenskan in January 2005. There he remained until the summer of 2008, before he moved back to his hometown club Djurgårdens IF in the Elitserien. In Djurgården he was captain between 2009 and 2010 and reached the 2010 team led by him, the Swedish runner. In November 2010, he ended his career due to a serious injury.

Internationally

For the Swedish national team Ragnarsson was active in two World Championships in 1995 and 1997, two Winter Olympic Games in 1998 and 2002 and the World Cup of Hockey 2004.
