Margaux

Margaux is a commune in the Gironde department in Aquitaine in the region with 1519 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011). It belongs to the district Lesparre -Médoc and the Canton of Castelnau -de -Médoc.

Geography

The municipality is situated on the hill above the Gironde, which arises around four kilometers from the confluence of the Garonne and Dordogne.

Economy

The vineyards are mainly located between town and the river. The vineyards of Margaux forms its own wine appellation. The vineyards of Haut-Médoc heard since its 1855 classification of the Premier Crus and is one of his best-known representatives. Nucleus of wine production is Château Margaux.
