Mariano Azuela

Mariano Azuela ( born January 1, 1873 in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco, † March 1, 1952 in Mexico City) was a Mexican physician and writer.

Life

Azuela studied medicine at the Universidad de Guadalajara; upon successful completion, he was admitted in 1899 as a doctor. Politically interested, he took part in the revolution and fought under the leadership of Francisco Madero against Porfirio Díaz. For some time Azuela initiated while also managing his home in Lagos de Moreno.

After the assassination of Madero's put Azuela 1913 all his offices and joined Pancho Villa on. In 1915 he fled to El Paso (Texas ), where he worked among others as a journalist. Two years later, he returned with his family back to the capital of his country and then worked all his life as a doctor.

Reception

Azuelas large comprehensive theme is the Mexican Revolution. In many of his novels, stories and essays he describes becoming his country. His most famous novel by far - Los de abajo - was shot in 1915 first as a serial novel for the arts section, but was published after the first success in book form. Shortly after the release he has been widely translated and a remarkable film by director Chano Urueta was seen under the same title as of June 1, 1940 in the cinemas.

In Los de abajo Azuela waived historical accuracy. Rather, his work offers quick scene changes and vivid images with which he draws an impressive picture of the rebellious hordes. This novel is still regarded as the most important of the more than 200 novels revolution.

In addition to his great theme Azuela described in his first novel, María Luisa with slightly autobiographical notes the time of his studies. His works Regina Landa and La mujer domada considered as typical representatives of the local customs.
