Marielle Thompson

Marielle Thompson ( born June 15, 1992 North Vancouver, British Columbia) is a Canadian freestyle skier. She specializes in the discipline of ski cross and has so far twice winning the World Cup discipline standings. My biggest success is winning the gold medal at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi.

Biography

At the beginning of their sports career, Thompson tried as alpine ski racer, but they only played some FIS races at the beginning of the year 2008; best result was a 24th place. Then she switched to ski cross. In 2010 she took the victory in the overall standings of the Nor -Am Cup and second place at the Canadian championships inclusion in the national team. Her debut in the Freestyle World Cup they had on 18 December 2010: In San Candido she went to 21st place and immediately won the first World Cup points. The best result in its premiere season was a 7th place. She was Canadian champion in the season finale.

On December 17, 2011 Thompson succeeded with 3rd place in San Candido, the first World Cup podium, the first World Cup victory she celebrated on February 3, 2012 in Blue Mountain. With a total of six podium finishes, including two victories in Branäs and Grindelwald, she decided the ski cross World Cup rankings of the season 2011/12 for itself. Thompson was at the beginning of the season 2012/13 initially unable to build on the achievements of the previous winter. In February she succeeded in Sochi another podium finish. At the World Cup 2013 in Voss, she won the silver medal. In winter 2013/14 Thompson stood on the podium six times a World Cup competition, including three as the winner. At the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014, she won the gold medal.
