Mario Scalzo

Mario Scalzo ( born November 11, 1984 in Saint- Hubert, Québec) is an Italian- Canadian professional ice hockey player who is since October 2012 when the EC Graz 99ers of the Erste Bank Hockey League contract.

Career

The 1.80 m wide defender played in his youth for the Tigres de Victoriaville and L' Océanic de Rimouski in the Canadian Junior Football League Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, before he signed his first professional contract in 2005. For the Iowa Stars Scalzo was two and a half years in the American Hockey League on the ice and then moved on to league rivals Norfolk Admirals, where he played the 2007/08 season to an end.

In the summer of 2008, the Italo - Canadians signed a contract with the Austrian champions EC Red Bull Salzburg, with whom he again reached the final of the Austrian Championship. After a game time Mario Scalzo left Salzburg in direction Adler Mannheim of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga.

In April 2011, Scalzo signed a contract for one year in the EHC Biel of the National League A. After he had fallen out with head coach Kevin Schlaepfer, 3 October 2011, his contract was dissolved. Then he received a short-term contract for a total of six games at SC Bern before he signed a season contract with TPS Turku of the SM- liiga. In October 2012, the Graz 99ers him committed by sample contract, which was later extended until the end of the season.

Internationally

Scalzo took part in the 2011 World Championships as a member of the Canadian national team. He stood in three games on the ice and recorded two assists.
