Marion Francis Forst

Marion Francis Forst ( born September 3, 1910 in Saint Louis, Missouri, USA, † June 2, 2007 in Kansas City (Kansas ), Kansas, USA) was bishop of Dodge City and later Auxiliary Bishop of Kansas City in Kansas.

Life

Marion Francis Forst was born the eldest of eight children of Frank A. and Bertha T. ( Gulath ) Forest in St. Louis. After attending the Catholic school in St. Louis, he joined in 1928 in the Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis one.

He received on 10 June 1934, the ordination by John Joseph Glennon and worked as a chaplain in the Diocese of Denver and from 1936 in St. Louis and Glendale. In 1943 he became chaplain to the Navy Chaplain School in Williamsburg, and the rank of "full lieutenant " on the cruiser USS San Juan. He survived attacks by Japanese kamikaze pilots and was involved in Operation Magic Carpet in Tokyo Bay. In 1946 he returned to St. Louis. In 1956 he became Vicar General of the newly established Diocese of Springfield - Cape Girardeau. In 1957 he was appointed Monsignor.

On January 2, 1960, he was called by Pope John XXIII. appointed bishop of Dodge City as the successor of John Baptist Franz. He received his episcopal consecration of Bishop of Springfield - Cape Girardeau, Charles Herman helmet Sing, on 24 March of the same year. Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Wichita, Mark Kenny Carroll and Leo Christopher Byrne, Auxiliary Bishop of Saint Louis.

He participated in the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965; his diary Daily Journal of Vatican II was later released. With 66 years he joined back in 1976 as Bishop of Dodge City and was appointed auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Kansas City and Titular Bishop of Scala. In 1986 he joined 76- year return of both offices. In 1995 he was appointed by Pope John Paul II, titular bishop of Leavenworth.

Forestry was the time his oldest living American bishop and one of the few U.S. participants at Vatican II He died at the age of 96 years to a heart attack in the Olathe Medical Center in Kansas City.
