Maritza Martén

Maritza Marten García ( born August 17, 1963 in Havana ) is a former Cuban discus thrower. She won at the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992 the gold medal in their discipline.

Maritza Marten won their first title in 1982 at the Pan American Junior Championships. Later, in the seniors they could at the Pan American Games in 1983 Platz 2, and 4 years later win 1st place. However, their biggest success was winning the gold medal at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. This was her only part in the Olympics, as both Cuba in 1984 as well as 1988 games boycotted. In 1995 Marten win in their last year of competition, the Pan American Games in their discipline once again.

In 1997 she retired from active competition and worked as a throwing coach for the Cuban athletics team.
