Mariveles (Bataan)

Mariveles is a Philippine municipality in the province of Bataan. In the waters off the church took place on October 4, 1646 instead of the last of the five naval battles of La Naval de Manila, which were included in the history of the Philippines as a victory over the Netherlands received.

Geography

Mariveles is located on a bay at the southern tip of the Bataan Peninsula. The municipality is located approximately 173 km away from Manila and from there via the North Luzon Expressway, the Gapan - Olongapo and reach the Roman Road Highway. Mariveles is also connected via a ferry crossing with Manila, the journey time is approximately 40 minutes. The municipality has a land area of 153.9 km ², representing 12 % of the area of the province of Bataan. Of these, 69 % pasture, 19 % forest and 6 % other agricultural land. The remaining 6 % are settlements and industrial areas.

Population Development

The annual growth rate of population is 4.71 %, which is twice as high as in the province of Bataan. In the village there is a campus of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.

Economy

The main agricultural products are rice, mangoes, legumes, vegetables and coffee. The main products are fishing mackerel, grouper, mussels and abalone. In addition, basalt and granite deposits and the production of bamboo products is important. In the first Mariveles Economic Zone (formerly Bataan Free Trade Zone ) was established in the country.
