Marjorie Gladman

Marjorie " Midge " Gladman Van Ryn ( born June 21, 1908 in Santa Monica, California, † November 9, 1999 in Peterborough, New Hampshire) was an American tennis player.

Life and career

Gladman Van Ryn was a successful amateur tennis player in the 1930s. She played at the University of Southern California tennis and ranked 1928-1937 among the top 10 in the U.S., reaching in 1937 rank 4 its highest placement. The biggest success of her career was winning the 1936 U.S. Tennis Championships (now the U.S. Open ) in tennis women's doubles with her doubles partner Carolin Babcock. The two Americans defeated in the final of Helen Jacobs and Sarah Palfrey Fabyan in three sets 9:7, 2:6, 6:4. Van Ryn yet reached the finals of 1933, 1937 and 1940 in women's doubles in New York.

In 1930 she married John Van Ryn, the famous tennis player and member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
