Marsheaux

Marsheaux are a synth pop duo from Thessaloniki, Greece, consisting of the two musicians Marianthi Melitsi and Sophie Sarigiannidou. They both moved in 2000 to Athens and founded the group to advance their preference for electronic pop music. The name derives from Marsheaux from the first two syllables of the names of the band members.

History

Marsheaux obtained with their debut single, a cover version of Gershon Kingsley's darker Popcorn national attention in Greece. The single was played widely in the Greek and continental European broadcasting. With its two remixes for the In - Vox duet with Andy Bell of Erasure, Will I Ever, they reached 2004 further international recognition.

Currently, Undo Records, published Marsheaux in 2004, their first studio album Ebay queen. The album plays heavily with Marsheauxs even granted are influenced by The Human League, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark and Depeche Mode. Key element in Marsheaux is that both musicians sing almost exclusively in English, which makes sales in the United Kingdom and the United States. Ebay Queen was internationally favorable reviews.

Both musicians are not only singers, but also experienced instrumentalists on the synthesizer. Marianthi plays microKORG, Minimoog, Roland SH101 and Yamaha CS01, Sophie plays microKORG, Korg MS-10, Roland alpha- Juno2, Akai AX80 and Roland CR -78.

In December 2006, published Undo Records Marsheauxs second album Peekaboo that sells worldwide, but mainly in Greece, the USA and the UK. Electronically Yours rated it as album of the year 2007.

2009 the third album Lumineux Noir. It contains some much darker pieces than the previous albums and was compared by Sonic Seducer with music by Chemical Brothers, Client and Ladytron.

In addition to their own compositions to Marsheaux who specializes in remixing and the recasting of existing pieces by artists such as Moby, Katy Perry, Kylie Minogue, Depeche Mode, Gwen Stefani, etc.. Both band members regular guest appearances as a female DJ in Athens and now in other European cities.
