Mårten Boström

Mårten Boström Erik Bernt ( born August 3, 1982 in Kirkkonummi ) is a Finnish athlete and orienteers. In 2013 he became world champion over the sprint distance in orienteering.

Career

Mårten Boström was born in 1982 as the youngest of four children in southern Finland Kirkkonummi in an orienteering enthusiastic family. His twelve- year older brother Mikael Boström 1997 and 1999 with the Finnish relay each runner-up. At the age of four years he had his first contacts with the orienteering.

Bostrom won the 2004 bronze medal in the sprint at the Orienteering Championships. He also became Finnish Champion 2005 in this discipline. Between 2004 and 2007 he participated four times in a row at World Orienteering Championships and reached it as the best result a ninth place. He then devoted himself to the goal, to qualify for the Olympic marathon. In 2008 he had a time of 2:15 hours needed it but with 2:18:51 hours, set up at the marathon in Ottawa, Canada, failed. In 2012 he attempted to qualify for the Olympics. But the Rotterdam Marathon on April 15, 2012, he remained with 2:21:03 hours again on the qualifying time. Then his attention shifted back to the orienteering and the upcoming home World Championships 2013 in Finland, where he surprisingly won the competition over the sprint distance.

Boström is married to the orienteer Matleena Boström ( born Ojapalo ). The couple lives in Helsinki. He belongs to the Finnish club Lynx. Boström studied Geographic Information Sciences at Northern Arizona University ( B.Sc.) and the University of Helsinki ( M.Sc.).
