Martuni Province

Martuni ( Մարտունի Armenian, Russian Мартунин, also Martouni ) is a province of the internationally unrecognized Republic of Nagorno Karabakh, capital is Martuni. The province was established in 1991 by the Azerbaijani Parliament merged with the province to the district Hadrut Xocavənd as part of the official resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, but this was not implemented by the conflict. After the occupation of surrounding areas by the Armenian army in 1993, the province also administers parts of the Azerbaijani districts Fizuli and Aghdam.

The province has an area of ​​951.2 square kilometers and according to the census of Nagorno-Karabakh from 2005 23 157 inhabitants at 24.35 inhabitants per square kilometer. In the province are a city, a major city and 34 municipalities.
